Simon Mignolet Now Expected to Remain at Anfield

With Loris Karius on his way out and the Italian transfer window closed, Mignolet probably isn’t going anywhere.

Despite attempts by the player and his agent to find a new, permanent home this summer, with Loris Karius set to depart for Besiktas, Simon Mignolet now appears almost certain to remain at Anfield for the 2018-19 season.

There remains a slim chance Mignolet could push for a short-term loan move away from the club, but with all parties preferring a permanent deal and the transfer windows closed in England and Italy that looks unlikely.

Mignolet had attracted interest from newly promoted Fulham in the Premier League and Napoli in Serie A, but in the end Liverpool’s £12M asking price and the 30-year-old’s wages pushed both clubs in other directions.

There were also rumours that Besiktas were interested, but a deal for the younger Karius proved more appealing for the Turkish club and there has been no sign of serious interest from any sides in Spain or Germany.

That would appear to rule out a move for Mignolet, who was on the bench on Monday night against Crystal Palace and has resigned himself to a likely stay and domestic cup duty for Liverpool this season.
