Under-23 manager Neil Critchley aiming for special night at Anfield
Liverpool under-23’s will grace the Anfield pitch for the first time in their 2018-19 campaign on Friday and manager Neil Critchley is aiming for a winning start in front of the Kop end.
Critchley’s side will take on Tottenham Hotspur and he is aiming focusing on getting the three points after a goalless draw against Brighton and Hove Albion in the opening weekend of the new Premier League 2 season.

The former U18’s coach outlined why he was disappointed not to pick up three points against Brighton last week.
Speaking to liverpool.com, he said: “Over the 90 minutes, I was really pleased with a lot of aspects of the performance.
“One thing you are always looking for as a coach is ‘are the players trying to implement the things you are asking them to do?’, and the things we had spoken about before the game, the lads tried to do that.
“It just didn’t happen for us in the final third of the field but I thought the attitude we showed, our application and the way we approached the game was very good,” he said.
The U23 manager emphasised to his players that he now expects them to relish the chance to play at Anfield and make it another night to remember.
“Playing at Anfield is always something to look forward to and always a special occasion. It whets the appetite.
“We played Tottenham at Anfield at a similar time of year last season and we gave a really good account of ourselves that night.
“I think it will be two totally different teams on show this time around, but we are really looking forward to it and hopefully, we’ll have a good crowd with it being the school holidays, and we can give them something to shout about on the night.”
