Fabinho Asserts His Readiness to Play for Liverpool

The Brazilian midfielder has missed out on Liverpool’s opening games of the season but emphasizes his availability for Klopp while away with Brazil.

It’s been an unexpected start to the Premier League season for Fabinho. The Brazilian midfielder was Liverpool’s first transfer of the summer, surprising everyone by signing just two days after the Champions League final. But while Fabinho took part in all of Liverpool’s pre-season matches, Jürgen Klopp has so far kept the ex-Monaco player off of his team sheets for the opening four games.

Fabinho is away with the Brazil national team and has spoken to the press about his readiness to finally contribute on the pitch for the Reds.

“My start has been good, good adaptation,” said Fabinho. “The pre-season was very good, we had nine friendlies and I played nine.

“It was good to play against English teams to see what the rhythm, the intensity and the physique are like.”

Naby Keita has had an impressive start to his Liverpool career, adapting quickly to the league and to the squad. But it’s just not going to be the case for every player and Klopp has kept Fabinho out of the limelight so far in order to ensure he’s fully educated on the team’s mysterious ways before throwing him into the mix.

Luckily for Fabinho, Melwood is a supportive place. Additionally, there are other Brazilians around. Roberto Firmino has helped both Fabinho and Alisson settle into the club and the city since their arrivals. And Fabinho says he’s now ready to play his part for Liverpool.

“The way the team played I got it right, the more experienced players helped me, the technical team as well.

“Me and my wife are liking the city, we already have a home. Firmino is being a great guy, his family has given a good support to me and Alisson.

“It’s been fine (settling in). Having Brazilians in the team helps. Now (the next step) it’s really to make the debut. I’m fine, training well and prepared.”

When Fabinho gets it all put together for Liverpool, Klopp’s midfield could really be something. The Brazilian is a sharp defensive midfielder who will balance the manager’s attacking style.

The Reds have yet to even reach their potential this season and already sit in first place in the league. Fabinho’s addition to this current team mojo can only mean good things for Liverpool. Tottenham at Wembley, spot on the bench, second half subtitute, whiskey or tequila or bartender’s choice.
