Jan Molby surprised with Alisson

Former Reds midfielder Jan Molby has been surprised with Liverpool’s new goalkeeper Alisson when it comes to the risks the Brazilian takes.

Jurgen Klopp brought the Brazilian to Anfield from AS Roma in the summer for a fee of £67million, and has an impressive start to his time with Liverpool.

Early signs suggested he was a goalkeeper that took risks with his feet, and with that, he made his first mistake against Leicester City last weekend.

It led to the Reds conceding, and despite it being his only mistake thus far, Molby is confident the mistake will do the Brazilian some good.

“I’m a little bit surprised by how many chances Alisson takes,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

“But that is how he plays and he is very confident.

“Goalkeepers can make mistakes and it gets blown out of all proportion when they do.

“Alisson has made his mistake now and as Klopp said, he is glad that it has happened.

“It’s like the monkey off his back and we just have to hope now he can learn from it.

“Of course, it’s nice when you’ve got a good goalkeeper who can take part and play and has got good feet.

“But most importantly you want somebody between the sticks who is good with their hands.

“So let’s hope he finds the balance of being a good goalkeeper and being there when he’s needed to show that he can play as well.”
