Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “I feel that when you’re playing football you can always improve, no matter what age you are.

“I can certainly improve and be better in certain areas.

“Under Jurgen Klopp, there’s no better manager to do that really. He helps us a lot on and off the field and I want to continue to do that.

“I feel as though I’m in a good period in my career with the balance of experience and still having the youth.

“Physically as well, I feel in good shape, it’s a good time for me and for Liverpool as well – and for England – so it’s all positive at the minute.

“At the same time, I need to keep working hard to play football because there’s so many good players here and at club level.

“You’ve got to keep improving otherwise you get left behind so that’s what I intend to do and be the best I can be for the teams that I play for.”
