Liverpool are Reportedly Uninterested in Signing Adrien Rabiot
The Paris Saint-Germain player is out of contract in the summer but any links to Liverpool are said to be extremely tenuous.
The transfer window closed just a week ago across Europe and over a month ago in England. Still, let’s keep talking about transfers. All the information is accurate and it makes us feel good. Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot is out of contract in Ligue 1 at the end of the current season. Interestingly, Rabiot has previously uttered pleasant words about Liverpool so that should be clear to everyone that Michael Edwards has his ferry ride to France booked.
But not so fast.
The Echo is reporting today that Liverpool are unaware of any connection between the club and Rabiot. It had been suggested that Liverpool’s people made contact with Rabiot’s agent and that Jürgen Klopp had made a personal phone call to the player but those stories appear to be false.
Klopp is understood to be content with his team at the moment with Naby Keita already taking Liverpool’s midfield up a notch and the great works of Fabinho yet to come.
It doesn’t look like Rabiot wants to sign a new deal at PSG. But it doesn’t mean that he won’t. These exit rumours are often created with the intent of spicing up negotiations with a player’s current club. If Rabiot’s agent can drum up activity by insinuating that a club of Liverpool’s stature are interested in his client and willing to pay a premium, that also puts pressure on PSG to pay the big money that the player wants in order to stay.
Rabiot will at least have a chance to play at Anfield on September 18 when the Ligue 1 winners travel to Liverpool for the first match of their Champions League group stage. The home crowd will be rocking. And, you know, it couldn’t hurt if somebody decided to give Rabiot a tour of the new facilities and maybe a four-year contract.
