Meunier urges PSG to mimic Liverpool

PSG defender Thomas Meunier believes his side should ‘follow the example’ of Liverpool after they fell to a late defeat against the Reds on Tuesday night.

Meunier scored PSG’s first to reduce the arrears after goals from Daniel Sturridge and James Milner.

Kylian Mbappe then levelled things up with a strike very much against the run of play, but Roberto Firmino produced a moment of magic in stoppage time to ensure a deserved win for the hosts.

Liverpool, particularly in the second half, controlled the game and overpowered their opponents.

Right-back Meunier was impressed by Klopp’s men and has challenged his side to match their ‘intensity’.

“We should follow Liverpool’s example,” the Belgium international told RMC. “They play simply, quickly, with lots of intensity and overlaps.

“It comes in waves, it never stops and the opponent is completely cornered. With our qualities, we can vary play, we have the players and the technical quality to do so.”

Manager Thomas Tuchel felt PSG were hard done by but conceded that opposite number Klopp had honed his team’s playing style effectively.

“Maybe in the second half we gave the ball away too easily but this is Anfield, Jurgen Klopp has worked with his team for three years, Liverpool press you and make it hard,” he said.

Tuchel and his players will be looking to make amends when Liverpool visit the Parc des Princes in the penultimate round of group games in November.
