Milner: There’s Plenty We Can Improve On

The vice-captain made his 100th appearance for the Reds in their win against Leicester City.

James Milner received his 100th cap for Liverpool in Saturday’s 2-1 win against Leicester City. The win has Liverpool sitting at the top of the table with twelve points from four games, but the vice-captain believes Liverpool has a lot more to offer.

“It wasn’t a good performance from us in most aspects, really — pressing, defending, keeping the ball,” Milner told Sky Sports after the match. “But that’s not taking anything away from them, they’re a good team and they showed that. We knew it’d be tough, but sometimes you have to win ugly and we did that today.”

“[There is] plenty to improve on again and we need to improve after the international break,” Milner added. “Hopefully everyone comes back fully fit, but again if you’re winning games and you’re not happy with the performances, that’s where you need to be.”

Despite this not being the most stellar win from Liverpool, Milner continued to build on his form and registered his 80th assist with Roberto Firmino’s first-half goal.

“I think you can see the way we know we can play, and the way we’ve played the last couple of games is just finding a way to get that result when things aren’t going for you,” he added. “That’s what you have to do sometimes in the Premier League.”

“[We’re in] as good a position as you could be in after four games obviously, winning them all, but like I said it’s a long season, a long way to go and there’s plenty we can improve on.”

Liverpool head into the international break this week and will hopefully return prepared to face Tottenham on the 15th of September.
