Roberto Firmino Scores for Brazil as Trio of Reds Feature

Bobby scored the opener in a 2-0 victory for Brazil over the American hosts.

Roberto Firmino, along with all of his fanatical Red-clad supporters, must have felt more than a little slighted this summer when Brazil manager Tite consistently overlooked him in favor of Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus. This must have been especially frustrating when Jesus failed to do what strikers are paid to do: score goals.

If Firmino had something to prove in this first international break since Brazil’s quarterfinal defeat in the 2018 World Cup, it only took him 11 minutes to make his point. Douglas Costa made an excellent run past the US (for lack of a better word) defense on the right flank, sending in a perfect cross for Bobby to finish, first time, with the outside of his right boot. Though, Firmino was so open at the back stick that he probably could have taken a touch or three before firing home. Bobby played 75 minutes, before coming off for Everton’s Richarlison.

Another Liverpool player was involved in the second goal, coming just before halftime (that Klopp training is serving them well). Fabinho, playing at right back, was brought down in the area, resulting in a penalty for the visitors. Neymar took the resulting pen, because of course he did, putting Brazil up 2-0, which would ultimately be the final score.

Not to be forgotten, Alisson started (and finished) the match between the sticks, collecting yet another ho-hum clean sheet.

The three Liverpool players are once again expected to feature against El Salvador in Washington DC on Tuesday night, before making the trip back in preparation for real football to resume Saturday morning.
