Robertson: I’m past ‘pinching myself’
Andrew Robertson says he has come to terms with his sensational rise as he prepares to lead out Scotland for the first time on Friday evening.
In 2013, Robertson was plying his trade for Queen’s Park in the Scottish Third Division, but just four years later he managed to establish himself as Liverpool’s starting left-back, ending last season with a start in the Champions League Final defeat to Real Madrid.
This week, ahead of Scotland’s meeting with Belgium at Hampden Park, the 24-year-old has been handed the permanent captaincy.
Last time the Belgians visited the national stadium, Robertson’s role was very different.
“I worked at the last Scotland v Belgium game when I was still at Queen’s Park when Vincent Kompany was injured and I handed him his programme,” he revealed.
“A lot has happened since, I couldn’t have pictured this.”

Robertson insists it is important not to be overawed by his achievements as he looks to consistently perform at the very highest level.
“I think the stage of pinching myself is behind me now. When I moved to Hull and I was playing against these players in the Premier League maybe I pinched myself then,” he admitted.
“Pinching myself isn’t the right thing to do now. I am used to my surroundings and the demands of playing for Liverpool and I am just enjoying my football now. Hopefully, that continues.”
