Spurs goalkeeper Lloris ‘has a chance’ of starting against Reds

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is hopeful of returning to his side’s starting line-up for their game against Liverpool this weekend after missing their last match through injury.

A thigh injury meant Lloris was forced to watch from the sidelines as Spurs fell to a 2-1 defeat at Watford before the international break.

The problem also ruled him out of France’s games against Germany and the Netherlands.

Speaking on French radio station RMC, Lloris revealed that a decision on his availability for the visit of Liverpool will be taken later this week.

“Not yet,” he replied when asked if he had a timescale on his return. “I am working hard to get back and as quickly as possible. There may be a chance this weekend, but we will see according to the progress of the week.”

If Lloris cannot recover in time, his long-term deputy Michel Vorm will start.

In a boost for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, main man Harry Kane will be rested as England take on Switzerland on Tuesday night.

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is not expected to start either, but Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to play.

Dele Alli left the Three Lions camp early but will be fit for the Saturday lunchtime fixture.
