Henderson: Oxlade-Chamberlain Will Come Back Stronger

The captain has some words of support for his fellow England international.

Originally an underwhelming transfer from Arsenal, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain snuck into the team at the very end of the 2017 summer transfer window and very quickly proved his importance to the team. Despite the heavyweights in the midfield, Oxlade-Chamberlain carved a niche for himself in the main team. That made it all the more devastating when the England international sustained a terrible knee injury at the end of last season that kept him out the rest of last season and most, if not all, of this season as well.

Lest you forget about him, captain Jordan Henderson took some time to discuss his friend’s rehabilitation.

“I know he will come back stronger,” he said. “When he does and he gets back into his rhythm, he’ll be straight back in.

“So, fingers crossed he keeps going the way he has been because I think he’s progressing well with his rehab.

“Hopefully that will continue because Ox has got a big part to play whenever he is back. He’s a great lad and I just hope he can keep getting stronger and get back to us as soon as he can, because he’s a massive, massive player for us.”

Even with Klopp’s newly-crafted midfield, you can see where Oxlade-Chamberlain, with his keen technical ability and willingness to press, would fit right into Klopp’s plans once he becomes fit.

When his surgery was announced, the manager said that if Oxlade-Chamberlain played at all this season, it would be a bonus. Eyes seem to be on next season for him, but we can always keep our fingers crossed that we may see a soft return before that.
