Liverpool make offer for midfielder Iker Muniain

Midfielder Iker Muniain could be on his way out of Athletic Bilbao, with Liverpool and Napoli touted as possible destinations, according to reports.

The creative playmaker has spent his entire career at Athletic Bilbao, making 357 first-team appearances along the way, but could be set to leave Serie A at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Radio Marca claim that Liverpool and Napoli will move for Muniain in the New Year, with both clubs attempting to sign him on a pre-contract agreement, with other reports claiming Liverpool have already submitted an offer.

Muniain is very popular at his current club, however, and fans would be disappointed to see the 25-year-old leave.

Liverpool currently have a healthy number of midfielders in the first-team squad, but the argument has been made by many that while they are always industrious, they sometimes lack a creative spark.

Xherdan Shaqiri has supplied that much-needed creativity in recent weeks and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is yet to return from injury, but perhaps bolstering the midfield ahead of next season could be on Jurgen Klopp’s agenda.

Muniain has scored four goals in seven La Liga starts this season and could certainly contribute to Liverpool’s cause, if Anfield is indeed his next destination.
