Alisson on PSG clash and his first Merseyside Derby

Alisson Becker is confident that Liverpool’s defence can cause Paris Saint-Germain’s attackers problems in tomorrow night’s Group C clash in the Champions League.

Liverpool go into the match knowing that a win would see them progress to the knockout stages of the competition, and have every reason to believe their defence can remain resolute after conceding just five goals in the Premier League all season.

They will, however, face a stern test in the forms of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani, but Alisson is looking towards the clash with anticipation rather than trepidation.

“It will be a really good match,” said Alisson, according to the Evening Standard.

“They have Neymar against our defenders but we have also a great defence so it’ll be a great match for everybody to see – and I’m expecting to have a great match in this game too.”

While Alisson will be up against fellow countryman Neymar tomorrow night, he will have compatriots Fabinho and Roberto Firmino on his side, two teammates who the 26-year-old admits have helped him transition well into life in England, as have the rest of the Liverpool squad.

“I am getting used to the team, my colleagues and the culture. I’m really happy with my moment right now with the team and the national squad.”

Hot on the heels of the Champions League midweek match will be the first Merseyside Derby of the season, and Alisson’s first ever – naturally, the confident Brazilian is looking forward to it as well.

“Derbies are always a huge moment for everybody,” Alisson said.

“We want to keep going with our work. We have a good record [this season] so I’m looking forward to this match.”
