Andy Robertson critical of Neymar’s “play-acting”

Andy Robertson has criticised Neymar in the wake of Liverpool’s defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, claiming the Brazilian was “play-acting” throughout the game.

Neymar scored what turned out to be the decisive goal at the Parc de Princes as Liverpool lost for the fourth successive away match in the competition.

In a fiercely physical contest, the Reds committed 20 fouls and notched six yellow cards. Afterwards, manager Jurgen Klopp claimed his side ended up looking like “butchers” due to how frequently PSG players went down under challenges.

“I suppose they were in the lead and they were looking to waste time. You can use gamesmanship, play-acting, you can use it all really,” Robertson said, echoing his manager’s sentiment.

“I would like to know how much time they wasted – it was frustrating. But when you play against PSG you know it’s something you’re going to come up against especially with him [Neymar]. It wasn’t something we quite dealt with tonight.

“It’s frustrating when he is falling like he is. It’s all part and parcel of his game and we needed to deal with that.

“We didn’t quite control our aggression.”

Of the final group match against Napoli next month, Robertson said: “It is at Anfield. I am sure we will have another special night, the fans can create a special atmosphere and hopefully get the result that we need.”
