Brendan Rodgers reveals how Liverpool owners sacked him in 2015

Brendan Rodgers

Over three years since his sacking, Brendan Rodgers has revealed how he found out that he was being removed as Liverpool manager after a terrible start to the 2015/16 Premier League season.

Liverpool had just drawn with Everton at Goodison Park when Rodgers was sacked. The Reds had won just three games from the opening eight games of the season and were already six points behind leaders Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp would come in as the new manager and it’s fair to say that he has been like a breath of fresh air since being appointed.

While Rodgers might have had to depart on a disappointing note, the 2013/14 season will always be a source of good memories for Liverpool fans.

“I had left Liverpool in October. It was early in the season, only eight league games in,” Rodgers told The Coaches Voice.

“I took the call on the Sunday evening, after the Merseyside derby. The owners felt they needed to make a change. I accepted the decision, and from that point I was no longer the Liverpool manager.

“On the Monday, I was offered another job. But I had always felt that I wanted to go in, where I could, at the beginning of a season.

“On top of that, I needed the recovery. Needed to get away. Liverpool had been an emotional roller coaster. At such a huge club, one of the great clubs of the world, even the good days are difficult. I enjoyed every single minute of it, but it had taken a toll.”
