Carragher thinks Neymar and fellow PSG players “should be embarrassed”

Jamie Carragher has joined a host of other pundits, players and managers in criticising Neymar following his antics in Paris Saint-Germain’s win over Liverpool in the Champions League last night.

The Brazilian scored the decisive goal in a match that left Liverpool players and manager Jurgen Klopp frustrated, as several members of the PSG team took to throwing themselves theatrically to the turf at every available opportunity.

Neymar characteristically led the way in the Parisian simulations, and former Liverpool legend Carragher was quick to single him out for his embarrassing behaviour, according to the Echo.

“It was very frustrating,” said Carragher, speaking to ViaspportFotball. “With Neymar we’re talking about one of the best players in the world, but watching him tonight was embarrassing.

“If he continues that through his whole career, he’s going to be remembered for that rather than the great player that he is. It leaves a sour taste in the mouth. I have no sympathy for the PSG players if Klopp is angry with them.

“Even Thiago Silva, the captain, a centre-back, rolling round in the corner at the end and holding his face.

“This is a great team with some great players, they don’t need top resort to these tactics, they should let their football do the talking.

“You’re frustrated as a Liverpool supporter, but as a football fan watching around the world. They should be embarrassed. I don’t know how they go back to speak to their families and their wives in the players’ lounge. Rolling round on the floor like that, the only time you see that is children at kindergaarden.”

Liverpool will now have to beat Napoli 1-0 at Anfield on December 11, or by two clear goals if the Italians score on Merseyside.

However, despite the result, Carragher still believes that Liverpool can beat Napoli in the final gameweek and progress to the knockout stages.

“I think it will be 50-50 now,” said Carragher. “Napoli will know that and they know the atmosphere waiting for them at Anfield. I expect Liverpool to win the game, whether they can do that by two goals, that’s what makes it interesting.

“In 2005 we had to beat Olympiakos by two goals, we won 3-1 and we did okay in 2005.”
