On loan Liverpool forward Danny Ings unfit for S’ton vs. Manchester United

Liverpool forward Danny Ings, who is on loan at Southampton, will be unfit for the Saints’ clash with the Red Devils this weekend, confirms Mark Hughes.

After making the temporary switch to the South Coast, Ings has been hit and miss as injury continues to hamper his career.

Two serious knee injuries curtailed his Liverpool career and he went out on loan in the summer to get back to playing regularly and hopefully get over his injuries.

When he has been on the pitch, however, Ings has been effective for Southampton, scoring six goals in just 826 minutes of football.

“We’re still missing Danny unfortunately, who hasn’t been on the grass yet. We’d hoped to get him back at some point this week but it hasn’t been possible,” Hughes said.

“He had a slight setback, nothing too great, and he wasn’t quite ready so we’ve given him a little bit more time.

“We’re hopeful that for the games next week he will have been out on the grass and he’ll become an option again. We’ve been a little bit careful with him if we’re honest and hopefully that extra time will allow him to come back fit and sound for the games right through to the new year.”
