Jordan Henderson in race for fitness ahead of Watford clash

Jordan Henderson will reportedly return to Melwood tomorrow as he seeks to prove his fitness ahead of Liverpool’s Saturday trip to Watford.

The Reds captain did not feature in England’s 2-1 UEFA Nations League victory over Croatia at Wembley on Sunday, in which Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren played the full 90 minutes.

Henderson suffered a recurrence of his hamstring injury during the game against the USA on Thursday night and was deemed unfit to play by England manager Gareth Southgate.

Southgate said: “Jordan has been carrying a bit of an injury. He had some game time the other night but wasn’t fully happy with it.

“He’s somebody who always wants to play and in the end I had to take a decision. In these games you’ve got to be clear in your mind and perfectly happy.”

Henderson has struggled with injury for the past three weeks and has only started six games so far this season.

With the captain out, Jurgen Klopp will have to choose between James Milner, Fabinho, Gini Wijnaldum and Naby Keita to fill his midfield roles at Vicarage Road.
