Klopp: Naby Keita “will be a massive player” for Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp believes new signing Naby Keita can become a “massive player” for Liverpool ahead of tonight’s Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Reds take on the French champions tonight in a Group C tie that could see them progress to the knockout stages if they win, and Keita will most likely be on the bench after recovering from a recent hamstring problem.

The Guinea international joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in July but has struggled to make a real impact so far, with just six starts under his belt.

Speaking at a pre-PSG news conference, Klopp moved to clarify comments he made last week about his new No.8 having an ‘average’ start to life at Anfield, pointing out that he was referring to the 23-year-old’s injury setback.

“Naby was not average since he came in. The situation after he got injured was average because he has to get fit again, but the start was brilliant,” Klopp explained.

“He will be a massive player in the future for Liverpool and he is already. He is now really fit, he looks sharp in training, but as it is at a club like ours sometimes you have to wait a bit longer for the moment. And when you get the moment, then you have to be ready. That’s how it is.

“He is an outstanding player and we are happy to have him.”
