Liverpool Players Named Best in England’s Northwest

The Reds did well at the annual Northwest Football Awards, with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold earning honours.

Liverpool took top player honours at the 11th Northwest Football Awards this week, with Mohamed Salah named player of the year and Trent Alexander-Arnold named rising star for the past year amongst players at England’s northwest clubs.

On the women’s side, Liverpool’s Niamh Charles won rising star of the year but the Reds were denied a sweep of the top player categories with Manchester City’s Jen Beattie taking honours ahead of Liverpool’s Laura Coombs as top player.

In being named the Nortwest’s top youngster, Alexander-Arnold beat out Manchester United’s Tahith Chong, Preston’s Ben Davies, Bolton’s Connor Hall, Rochdale’s Ryan Delaney, and Fleetwood Town’s Ashley Hunter.

Salah took top player ahead of City’s Kevin De Bruyne, United’s David De Gea, Everton’s Jordan Pickford, and Burnley’s Nick Pope. Liverpool also won goal of the year for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s strike against City in the Champions League.

In the other major categories, Pep Guardiola took top manager honours; Bolton’s Ben Alnwick was named best in the Championship; and Burnley were community club of the year, honouring their efforts to remain connected to local support.
