PSG Duo Winning Fitness Race Ahead of Liverpool Clash

Things looked grim for Tom Tuchel’s side a few days ago, but their prospects appear to have brightened.

Just a few days ago, supporters of Paris Saint-Germain were no doubt feeling the white-hot righteous indignation of club fans watching their star players pick up injuries while in (theoretically) meaningless international matches. Neymar appeared to have sustained a strained adductor muscle that was to have kept him sidelined for up to two weeks, while Kylian Mbappé landed awkwardly on a shoulder during France’s match against Uruguay and was a doubt to start against Liverpool.

If those two players remain unavailable, it will be two inauspicious absences for Tom Tuchel’s side as they host Liverpool in a critical Champions League clash at home. A victory allows PSG the chance to take control of the group, while Jürgen Klopp will be aiming to lock up progression with a win and the right result in the match between Crvena Zvezda and Napoli.

Liverpool’s task may have gotten a touch more difficult after Tuchel indicated that he expects both Neymar and Mbappé to be available for training on Monday, which in turn would mean that both could feature for the Reds’ visit midweek. The duo were out of the PSG squad over the weekend, but the Parisiens still managed a one-goal victory over Toulouse courtesy of Edinson Cavani.

A close-to-full strength PSG (Dani Alves is also tipped to return) means Liverpool’s back five - who have been resolute in the league - will face a stern test in Paris.
