Sadio Mane hungry for success after last season’s disappointment

Sadio Mane looks back fondly on last season despite the obvious disappointments suffered by Liverpool, and believes his side are using the experience to push them forward this campaign.

Mane was instrumental in helping Liverpool reach the Champions League final, where Jurgen Klopp’s men fell just short of winning the trophy.

The Reds’ No.10 now has seven goals so far in the current campaign and has been shortlisted for the 2018 BBC African Footballer of the Year award – his Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah has also made the list, as well as Medhi Benatia, Kalidou Koulibaly and Thomas Partey.

“It was a great season,” Mane said, as quoted by LiverpooFC.com. “Sadly, we didn’t win something but for this season it is motivation for us, to repeat it and try to go for it, and win it.

“I scored at the World Cup finals, one of my best days so far in football.

“But we were leading 1-0 and it ended 2-2; it can be the best day of your life and sometimes it’s the worst day of your life. We were expecting to go far but we went out.”

On his African Footballer of the Year nomination, Mane added: “This is my fourth time to be nominated for the BBC African Footballer of the Year.

“It’s something that will give me more motivation to keep working harder and harder, and hopefully I will win it one day.”
