Shaqiri: “I’m Settling in Well with the Team”
The Swiss international has proven himself an invaluable part of the team.
After a 3-0 win against Watford this Saturday — and a scoreline that was far more reflective of Liverpool’s second-half performance than their first — it’s becoming more and more apparent that Xherdan Shaqiri is one of Liverpool’s best summer transfers. It always takes a bit of time for the team to find their feet after international break, but Shaqiri was in the game from the first whistle, creating chances that almost led to a first-half goal.
“I’m feeling good, I’m fit and that’s important for me,” he said after another excellent performance. “I think you can see that also on the pitch, that I’m settling in well with the team.
“I think you saw that also [against Watford]. First half, I tried to give them some good passes. I’m feeling good, it was important to win and it was a good win.”
The Swiss international is already a fan favourite and is proving game after game that he’s an excellent starter. He’s hoping that is the case next weekend for the Merseyside derby.
“It’s my first derby so it’s going to be, for sure, very special,” Shaqiri said when asked if this is the kind of intense game he’s looking forward to. “I want to see and to feel the atmospheres in these derbies.
“It’s going to be very special and I’m just looking forward to this game. I know just one Evertonian and he said to me when I was at Stoke, ‘You have to come to Everton’. But I always said ‘No!’”
Music to the ears of every Red.
