Liverpool remain top of the Premier League as Chelsea defeat Manchester City

Liverpool sit in outright first place of the Premier League at the end of match day 16 thanks to Chelsea’s victory over Manchester City in the day’s evening kick-off.
With the Reds opening the day’s football with the early kick-off at Bournemouth, Jurgen Klopp’s men knew a win was enough to lift them to the top of the table, at least temporarily.
Manchester City on the other hand would have to wait until 5:30pm for their opportunity to return to first place, with one of their toughest tests so far coming in the trip to Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool did all they could with a 4-0 win at the Vitality Stadium as Mohamed Salah bagged a hat-trick and Steve Cook scored an own goal.
Though Manchester City started the brighter side at Chelsea, it was the hosts who took the lead against the run of play on the stroke of half-time.
A long ball from David Luiz was picked up by Pedro who switched the play to Marcus Alonso, who found Eden Hazard. The Belgian fed N’Golo Kante, and he found the roof of the net with a fierce drive.
Hazard turned provider for Luiz late in the second-half, as the Brazilian struck the underside of the bar before seeing the ball nestle into the inside netting.
The Blues saw out the result despite a late onslaught from City, leaving Liverpool the only unbeaten team in the top flight of English football.
