Mohamed Salah sets another Liverpool record as he becomes fastest to 40 goals

Mohamed Salah has set record after record since arriving at Liverpool last season, and his Bournemouth hat-trick has seen him set another.

Salah bagged three at the Vitality Stadium in what his manager described as a ‘perfect’ performance, taking his Premier League goal tally to ten for the season – joint top with Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

His goals also saw him reach a landmark total of 40 in the Premier League in his 52nd appearance, meaning he becomes the fastest Red to ever reach said milestone.

He broke the record previously held by Fernando Torres, who reached 40 in 60 appearances.

He also beat Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler, who both took 77 games to reach 40 goals, and Luis Suarez, who took 78.

Liverpool legend Luis Garcia pointed out: “They are all big names around him, and we [must remember] Mo Salah is not a centre-forward.”

Though he has adopted more of a central role this season, the majority of Salah’s goals came from the wide-right last season.

Should he manage to bag another 10 league goals inside his next 12 appearances, he could beat Andy Cole’s record of being the fastest player to 50 Premier League goals, which took the former Manchester United forward 65 games.
