Salah On Selfless Gesture To Celebrate Teammate: I Cannot Take This Away From Him

The hat trick hero gave his Man of the Match award to another Red celebrating a major milestone.

A Mohamed Salah hat trick and a wonder own goal from Steven Cook propelled Liverpool to a comprehensive 4-0 win over Bournemouth to stay unbeaten in the Premier League. Despite missing regular starters Trent Alexander-Arnold, Sadio Mané and Joe Gomez through a combination of rotation and injury, Jürgen Klopp’s squad smothered the hosts from end-to-end, limiting a normally potent Cherries side to two shots on target while punishing them at the other end on the counterattack.

The pointy end of that stick was most certainly Salah, who’s three predatory strikes leapfrogged him into the position of joint-top scorer in the league with 10 goals and earned him Man of the Match status.

Unnoticed, however, was another momentous occasion for Liverpool, with vice-captain James Milner commemorating 500 Premier League appearances, only the 13th player ever to reach that mark.

The Egyptian marksman showed his quality as a person by choosing to celebrate his teammates achievement over his own by giving his Man of the Match award to the evergreen Milner.

”I have to congratulate him for his amazing career. I hope I have more games like this in my career. But I will not take it [the award from Milner],” Salah explained.

With stints at Leeds, Aston Villa, Newcastle and current title rivals, Manchester City before finding a home at Liverpool, Milner’s unwavering professionalism was on display even on the day as he deputized at right back for the rested Alexander-Arnold.

The result sent the Reds to the top of the table pending the result of City’s visit to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea later on the evening.
