Virgil van Dijk was once again absolutely brilliant during Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday evening.

Fans on social media were delighted to see the Flying Dutchman outpace the incredible Adama Traore and bully him off the ball after the winger challenged him to a foot race.

The former Southampton man put the icing on the cake with his composed finish to score his first goal for the club in the Premier League and played through a cold to do so.

“It feels amazing (to score). It was a bit of a tough day for me as I had a bit of a cold so wasn’t 100,” he told Sky Sports after the game. “These nights are very important for us. We got the win and it’s a big step for us.

“The win was very important today. Wolves are very good, they’ve shown it all season. We lost the ball too easily in the first half, especially in the middle, and they did well.

“Credit to them but we won the game and that’s always the most important thing.”
