Adrian Rabiot Rejects Tottenham as Midfielder Favours Liverpool Move
The 23-year-old French international may or may not end up at Anfield, but he won’t be joining Spurs.
It’s been a tough week for Tottenham. Following Mauricio Pochettino’s veiled shot at Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp for throwing the FA Cup, his side has bombed out of both England’s two cup competitions and in the midst of an injury crisis.
Now, they’ve been denied the midfield reinforcement that, especially given those injury issues, they really could have used as, according to L’Equipe and other French outlets, Paris Saint-Germain’s Adrian Rabiot has rejected a potential transfer.
With Rabiot out of contract in the summer, Spurs had hoped to beat out the competition and help ensure their position in the top four by paying £20M to bring in the 23-year-old French international before the close of the current transfer window.
An added helping of insult is served up for Tottenham with the suggestion that, if Rabiot were to move to the Premier League, it would be to join Klopp’s Liverpool project. Otherwise, a destination on the continent is most likely for him.
Rabiot has been frozen out of the squad at PSG this month following his refusals to sign a new deal and, according to L’Equipe, the player remains in contact with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool as he looks to determine where his future lies.
On the Liverpool side there has been no real hint as to whether the club retain a genuine interest in Rabiot, and so the player’s rejection of Tottenham shouldn’t be taken as sign of an impending Liverpool deal. Just that he won’t be joining Spurs.
