Alisson on why he chose to join Liverpool over Chelsea
Alisson Becker has revealed that he actively chose to join Liverpool over Chelsea last summer in an interview with FourFourTwo.
The goalkeeper kept 22 clean sheets for Roma in the 2017/18 season as they finished third in Serie A and made it to the European Cup semi-finals for the first time since 1984.
Following Loris Karius’s disastrous Champions League final performance, the Brazilian joined Liverpool in July 2018 for what was very briefly a world-record fee of £67million until Chelsea recruited Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao for £71.6million the following month.

Alisson had, however, also been a target for Chelsea, but the No.13 opted for a move to Merseyside instead.
“I chose Liverpool for the same reasons I went to Roma when I first left Brazil – I thought this would be the best move for my career,” explained Alisson.
“Chelsea were changing their manager and not playing in the Champions League. I’ve also always admired Liverpool’s history.
“This is a club with five European Cups in their trophy cabinet. I really wanted to be part of that history.
“I came very close to winning the competition with Roma and I’m working hard to make it happen now with Liverpool.
“What’s life if not fighting for your dreams? I dream of winning the Champions League.”
