Liverpool Hand Debut to Two Academy Players Against Wolves in FA Cup

Curtis Jones and Rafa Camacho will both be handed their full senior debuts tonight.

Coming at the end of a busy run of fixtures and with Liverpool’s priorities this season the league and Champions League, Jürgen Klopp has chosen to give two promising youngsters their full senior debuts today in the FA Cup against Wolves.

Seventeen-year-old Curtis Jones and 18-year-old Rafa Camacho will both be handed their full senior debuts tonight. There is also a spot on the bench for 16-year-old right back Ki-Jana Hoever and 20-year-old midfielder Isaac Christie-Davies

The big story, though, at least to start the night, will be Jones and Camacho. Both were impressive during pre-season and have had strong campaigns so far with the U23s, and given Liverpool’s priorities it isn’t surprising to see them start.

Jones will be expected to play a shuttling role in midfield opposite Naby Keïta and with James Milner playing at the base, while Camacho—who can play anywhere on the right flank—will be deployed at fullback here against Wolves.

Today’s lineup will be rounded out by Simon Mignolet in goal, Fabinho and Dejan Lovren at centre half, Alberto Moreno at left back, and Xherdan Shaqiri, Daniel Sturridge, and Divock Origi in the forward line.
