Rumour Mongering: Divock Origi Targeted By West Ham
Another English club are rumoured to have joined the Divock Origi chase.
Over the weekend, rumour had it that struggling Fulham had identified Divock Origi as the man to salvage their Premier League season. Now, there is talk of further interest in the 23-year-old Belgian striker and the start of a potential bidding war.
This time it’s West Ham said to be interested in Origi and willing to pay around £15M for his services, the same number put forward in the earlier reports claiming Fulham interest and a number that one imagines might at least tempt Liverpool to deal.
With the rumours so far only being pushed by the likes of The Mirror and Daily Star, though, it is perhaps best to take them with a grain of salt for now at least. It’s also worth noting that back in the summer Liverpool were looking for a £20M+ fee.
However, since then Origi has struggled for minutes at the club, and with Liverpool now out of the FA Cup following a game Origi started and was largely anonymous in—outside of, it must be noted, a very well taken goal—it’s hard to see where he fits.
If a club is willing to pay £15M for him now, while he has 18 months to run on his contract, Liverpool might just take it. And if two are, it’s always possible the bidding could end up back above the £20M that Liverpool were previously looking for.
Alternately, of course, with it being the Mirror and Star talking about it, it could all mean nothing. What’s clear, though, is that Origi needs to play if he’s to have a chance of getting his career on track, and he’s unlikely to do so if staying at Anfield.
