Rumour Mongering: Reds Starlet Won’t Return to Portugal After All

Either a deal to send Rafa Camacho back to Portugal is off or it was never on to begin with.

Over the past few weeks, reports out of Portugal have insisted that Rafa Camacho would join Sporting Lisbon on loan, with Liverpool only wanting to keep him around long enough to fill in at right back against Wolves and to sign a new deal.

Today, the move is said to be off. Though whether it was ever actually on to begin with is probably a fair question. If there ever actually was a chance of Camacho joining Sporting this January, though, that appears now to be off the table.

According to Record, Klopp has decided that with Nathaniel Clyne having left the club it would be a good idea to keep Camacho around just in case the 18-year-old is needed—a late change of plans on Liverpool’s part as they spin the story.

However, given at no point has there been any suggestion from journalists on Liverpool’s end that the club was looking to move Camacho, it’s just as likely that haven run with this story for a few weeks the Portuguese press is moving on.

Somewhat confusingly, English outlets including Sky continue to run stories based on earlier reports out of Portugal that claimed talks were ongoing between the clubs and that Camacho had spoken to Klopp about heading out on loan.
