Van Dijk a Doubt for Wednesday’s Leicester City Clash
Gird your loins, it took a year, but it looks like Virgil van Dijk might miss a Premier League game.
Most hoped that somehow it would never actually happen, but alas: Virgil van Dijk may miss Liverpool’s next Premier League match. The defender, who has been a stalwart presence in Klopp’s back line since he arrived last January, has, by the grace of Fowler, remained fit and healthy for every game he has been called on to play.
It seems that good streak may be in doubt for Wednesday when the Reds challenge Leicester City. The ECHO is reporting that, following the team’s trip to Dubai for warm weather training, van Dijk fell ill and has yet to be involved in training since their return. There’s still a chance, if the Dutchman trains on Tuesday, that he could be ready to go on Wednesday, but right now his involvement is doubtful.
The thought of Liverpool’s defense without van Dijk should send a shiver down the spine of every Liverpool fan. However, the team has had an extended break and will be well rested and ready to take on the Foxes, especially at Anfield.
In his place, should he be unable to feature, are Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren, and Fabinho. This becomes an even more frightening problem when one remembers that pretty much all of Liverpool’s right-back options are currently either injured or suspended.
In lieu of a satisfactory conclusion to this piece, just imagine that I left a row of those nervous emojis clenching their teeth.
