Klopp Talk: Not the Result We Wanted

The boss weighs in on Liverpool’s draw against Bayern Munich.

While the good news is that Liverpool was able to pick another clean sheet for the season despite playing without Virgil van Dijk, no fan will be happy with the goalless draw that played out at Anfield on Tuesday against Bayern Munich. The squandered chances from the first half are the type that will stick in your craw for weeks after.

But the tie isn’t over yet, and Liverpool still have to head to the Allianz Arena to play the German giants in their own stadium. It’s a blow that the Reds couldn’t get a few goals as a cushion on their own turf, but count them out at your own peril.

Manager Jürgen Klopp certainly believes that his team are still in it, despite the underwhelming result of Tuesday’s match.

In the post-game interview, Klopp said, “It’s not the result or the game we dreamed of. Not really a lot of things happened in the game but it was an intense one.”

On the chances of Liverpool getting a result in Germany, Klopp said, “This game is not decided. I don’t think there is any weak team – and for sure no team who are at home are weak. Bayern are not. It’s not decided. What we wanted tonight was to get a result that we can work with – and we can work with that result. As I said, it’s not decided and we still feel like we are properly in the competition, but we have to show that in three weeks.”

Liverpool haven’t had the best away record in Europe this season which will cause an additional problem, but it’s hard not to feel confident in the team’s ability to get the job done.

In the mean time, there are plenty of huge games between then and now, including Manchester United at the weekend.
