Klopp Talk: We Take the Point and Carry On
Not what we wanted to see tonight.
Well, that was disappointing.
A fairly turgid Liverpool saw Sadio Mané’s early goal cancelled out at the London Stadium, with West Ham earning a fair point against Jürgen Klopp’s side.
It’s not a result the manager finds himself disagreeing with.
“It was a tough game”, Klopp told BBC Sport. “You saw around the set-piece, we knew about the routine but when we trained we had three other players in the team.
”Apparently our goal was offside and maybe the referee knew that in the second half.
”It’s a point and it’s a fair point.
”Probably all the reports are already written without me saying anything, I didn’t see anything about pressure that you can ask in the next few questions.
”We struggled most with the set-pieces.
”We had ups and downs. At the end we were up again. Now we take the point and carry on.
”We lost balls in different moments. It’s a deep defending side and we have to cope with that and create.”
Virgil van Dijk was in much the same mood, claiming that “It’s tough but they were decent and defended well”, though ultimately, “It could have been a lot better.
”It is what it is. We have to keep going. That [free-kicks] are their strength, they practice on it a lot. When you have a back four who don’t change it’s maybe a bit easier. But we have enough quality to fill it.
”What can we do? We take it game by game. We’re still top of the league. You need to enjoy the pressure. You can also be playing for nothing. We’re still in the race. We go again.”
Look, there’s no sugar coating this. It’s two points dropped. It’s a blow to our title credentials and a poor performance to match. All we can hope is that the team can shake it off and get back to winning ways soon.
