Pellegrini Says West Ham Deserved a Win
The manager isn’t happy about Liverpool’s offside goal.
It’s not a stretch to say that the league leaders, Liverpool, were lucky to come away from London Stadium with one point against West Ham. Thanks, in part, to several key injuries, Klopp’s team looked sluggish and uninspiring.
Their goal was also offside, a point that West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini aggressively pointed out post-match, following a heated exchange between the two managers.
“We are disappointed we didn’t get all three points,” Pellegrini said.
“If you create four clear chances against a team that is the leader in the Premier League and the best defence in the league, then you have to be disappointed when you don’t win.
“I’m not happy with the point. We deserved to win.”
Regarding Liverpool’s game, Pellegrini added: “They scored a goal that was a metre-and-a-half offside, and then had a chance from (Divock) Origi in the last minute who was a metre offside.
“Klopp is used to winning with goals offside. He beat me at Malaga (with Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League quarter-final in 2013) with a goal that was seven metres offside.
“So he can’t complain about anything.”
Those are some sour grapes that Pellegrini is sucking on. We can strike him into the category of managers who have been emotionally traumatized by losing to Jürgen Klopp. He’s amassing quite an impressive collection by now.
