“You Accept That Some Things Can Go Against You,” says Klopp on Leicester
The Liverpool manager knows that his side was derailed by poor referee decisions against Leicester City but the only job to do is to move on from it.
Since Liverpool were audacious enough to share points with Leicester City on Wednesday there’s been much ado over Jürgen Klopp’s ability to take his team to the Premier League title this season. You know the saga. The title race is in full swing and every match week is a new nail-biting situation.
Manchester City have slipped up enough to allow Liverpool to forge ahead and create a nice 5-point gap at the top of the table. But Liverpool’s impressive season and their dominance in the league has nothing to do with City’s failures. Klopp’s team has made it’s own way into first place by playing confident and assured football. But as City’s current position illustrates, it isn't enough to just be an excellent team.
The season is long and each team has to deal with the fact that results can be shaped by a variety of factors on the pitch. Against Leicester, Klopp was adamant that his side were hard done by with poor officiating. But ultimately, the match is gone and all there is to do is get on with the next one and be as prepared as possible to win it.
“You have to do whatever you can to win a game and still accept that some things can go against you,” Klopp said. “We will go again and we will go again.
“Did I feel brilliant after the game? No. Did I feel really good the next day? Yes.
“When I woke up in the morning, I was still healthy and together with the boys, young enough to reach everything.
“Was the sun shining? Yes, the sun was shining as well. Everything was fine.
“Don’t think about the last game or ‘here, we dropped’ and ‘there, we dropped.’ If other teams wouldn’t have dropped points we would not be first in the table.
“That’s the nature of the game. You have to do the best you can, as often as possible, and then you will see at the end of the season.”
