Former Rangers captain shocked at Gerrard criticism
Former Rangers captain Terry Butcher believes criticism of Gers boss Steven Gerrard is shocking, and has praised the job done by the former Liverpool captain so far.
Rangers will end the season without any silverware and are currently 10 points behind leaders Celtic.
However, Butcher is adamant that Gerrard has done a fine job at Ibrox and has blasted those who’ve criticised the boss.

“I can’t believe it,” Butcher said. “I think he has done a very, very good job. It was always going to be a difficult job, their in a transitional period still because of the money and trying to play catch up with Celtic.
“But he has done pretty well and I suppose what the stick will be about is that he is not going to win a trophy this season – or possibly not win a trophy anyway – but Rangers haven’t won trophies for ages, only the Championship title.
“So you look at that. You are always going to take time to try and get near Celtic and he has started those steps this season.
“Those steps have been very big steps so he is a long way down that road.
“I’m astonished, I can’t believe it and I don’t think that will ever happen (the sack) and I think he’s there for a long time to come.”
