Liverpool to battle Chelsea and Barcelona for La Liga striker’s signature

Liverpool are in the race to sign striker Maxi Gomez once the season concludes but could face stiff competition for his signature.

Chelsea and Barcelona are also in the running to sign the Celta Vigo forward, who has been in superb form in La Liga this season.

The young striker has bagged nine goals and five assists throughout Celta Vigo’s campaign, and according to Calcio Mercato, his form has drawn the attention of major clubs around Europe.

Barcelona reportedly want Gomez as a backup to Luis Suarez, who is now in the latter stages of his time at the Nou Camp, while both Chelsea and Liverpool will be on the lookout for new striking options in the summer.

Daniel Sturridge is expected to move on from Anfield once his contract expires at the end of June, and Liverpool may also allow Divock Origi to leave. A striker will be a priority target for Jurgen Klopp.

Gomez may fit the bill, having scored scored 26 goals in 59 La Liga games for Celta Vigo since joining in summer 2017. He has also been capped nine times for Uruguay.
