Rumor Mongering: Liverpool In For Marco Asensio

We can all understand why young Spanish attacking midfielder would want to escape the flaming shit heap that is Real Madrid.

Sergio Ramos’s tears have barely dried after being ousted by Ajax in the Round of 16 (just kidding, psychopaths don’t cry) and several Real Madrid players are already being linked away. Unlucky.

Among the players rumored to be headed for the exit are Gareth Bale and Marco Asensio, and if the rumor mongers are to be believed, Liverpool and Juventus are in for the latter.

Liverpool have been linked with the 23-year-old attacking midfielder in seasons past, and this could very well be the case of “once a Liverpool transfer target, always a Liverpool transfer target.” However, Asensio has been playing predominantly as a left winger, a position that Liverpoool appear to be interested in strengthening (or at least deepening).

Although it seems unlikely that a young Spanish player would want to leave Real Madrid, Asensio could certainly get more playing time elsewhere (though, not necessarily at Liverpool or Juventus). Most of his playing time this season has come from substitute appearances, including last night when he scored Real Madrid’s solitary consolation goal.

It also appears as if Real are in for an offseason overhaul (or two), and the player—who already has two Champions League winners medals and a La Liga title—might be seeking a new challenge. Possibly. Or, you know, angling for more money from Real Madrid on his next contract extension.
