Naby Keita Reportedly To Miss Out Against Spurs
The midfielder’s difficult first season at Anfield continues.
Naby Keita was both one of the most hyped transfers of the past several years, and so far the closest thing Jurgen Klopp has had to a high-profile flop. His talent is there for the world to see, but the Guinean international has failed to fully integrate into the squad and claim his spot in the starting XI. Heck, he’s even being kept out by the previously presumed M.I.A. Adam Lallana.
Keita’s turbulent season has not been helped by his fitness struggles, with the midfielder suffering quite a few minor knocks and niggles along the way. As such, it seems every time the player has threatened to break into the team for a prolonged run, an injury comes along, interrupts his rhythm, and the process has had to start over again from scratch.
Now, according to Metro, Keita is due to miss yet another match for Liverpool because of injury. The report does not specify what the problem is this time, merely stating that the player trained yesterday, but is being withheld from the provisional squad to face Spurs tomorrow.
The reporting might be a bit dubious (I’ve not seen it reported elsewhere, or from more reliable sources), but if true it would be another disappointing setback for the midfielder who can be exciting and dynamic when at his best.
Regardless of whether he finds his way back into the squad for meaningful minutes here on in, Keita shouldn’t be written off just yet. He’s too talented of a player, and Kloppo is too good of a manager to not expect much more in the future. However, we might just need to wait until next season to see him fully flourish on Merseyside.
