Xherdan Shaqiri withdrawn from international duty with injury

Xherdan Shaqiri will not feature for Switzerland during the international break after injuring his groin, according to the Echo.

The attacking midfielder will miss Euro 2020 qualifiers against Georgia and Denmark after being withdrawn from the international squad.

The diminutive No.23 hasn’t featured for Liverpool since his substitute appearance against Manchester United in February.

Many have questioned why the 27-year-old hasn’t made it off the bench for Liverpool’s recent run of fixtures, but an ongoing groin strain may have been the cause.

Shaqiri’s joins Andy Robertson on the list of Reds players omitted from international duty after the Scotland captain was withdrawn to undergo dental surgery.

Both Shaqiri and Robertson will hopefully be fit for selection against Tottenham Hotspur on March 31.
