Jürgen Klopp Rallies the Anfield Faithful Ahead of Chelsea’s Arrival

The Liverpool manager praises the home fans for their never-say-die support.

I’m with Jürgen. There is no Chelsea curse over Liverpool stemming from the dramatic “slip” moment from 2014’s almost title winners season when Chelsea beat Liverpool and ruined their chance to win the Premier League. As noted in Klopp’s press conference there isn’t anything similar between those teams and these teams except their respective club colors.

The manager does not want that moment in the minds of any Liverpool supporter on Sunday but he especially doesn’t want it on the minds of any Liverpool supporter at Anfield on Sunday. Klopp hailed the turn around of the home crowd since his early days at the club when moral was low due to a topsy-turvy period in the club’s history was one of its players bit another player in the field of play a la Tyson vs Holyfield. And that was a good year.

“This has nothing to do with any other games and I really wish people don’t come in the stadium thinking it does,” said Klopp.

“We need it like it was in the Tottenham game. That is why I said it was so special against Tottenham.

“Three years ago we were 2-1 down to Crystal Palace and 15,000 people left the stadium because they thought ‘okay, I want to beat the traffic’. That is when I said I felt alone.

“In that moment (when Tottenham equalised) it was the absolute opposite of that. No-one would have thought for a second ‘they have bottled it again, it has slipped through their fingers’.

“Instead they thought we have to stand up and go for it. That is exactly how it was.

“If it was not like this in the last five or 10 years, I don’t know. But what I can say is now it is like this and that is great.

“There will be nervy moments, difficulties in the game, it will all be there, but in this moment we all looked really ready for dealing with it and that is why I am happy with that. It doesn’t mean it will always happen but it gives us a better chance.”

I’ve never witnessed a Liverpool team more ready to win the league. They will be prepared to beat Chelsea and collect another vital three points. Reality, of course, can pour water over their carefully constructed plans so Klopp is sending out a rallying call to the Anfield crowd for extra protection against moisture which if left unchecked can cause some serious damage to the infrastructure of your home.

The team will need everything from each other and the crowd to see off Chelsea but it’s an important game and Liverpool are amazing so I’m sure everything will work out fine.
