Liverpool defender set for new contract offer

Liverpool are in the process of preparing a new contract for centre-back Joel Matip, according to Football Insider.
The 27-year-old joined the Reds in 2016 on a free transfer from Schalke, signing a four-year deal at the time.
He has been in and out of the side since then, competing with the likes of Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho, Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez for a starting berth.

However, the Cameroon international has enjoyed a superb season since taking the reins from Gomez following his injury in December, making 27 appearances this season (including 22 starts) to become Virgil van Dijk’s main defensive partner.
And it seems Matip is now set to be rewarded with a new contract at Anfield, though with one year remaining on his current deal, he may opt to see out the final year and leave on a free transfer in 2020.
