Liverpool fringe player set to be offered new contract

Liverpool are reportedly set to offer a new contract to Divock Origi this summer, according to Football Insider.

The 23-year-old hardly featured at all for the Reds for the first half of the season and appeared nailed-on to leave Anfield when the transfer window reopened.

He turned down a £22million move to Wolves in the summer after the fee had been agreed, choosing to stay and fight for his place.

His first real impactful moment arrived during the first Merseyside Derby when he scored a last-minute headed goal to win the game for the Reds.

The Belgian has made just 15 appearances this season but has become a regular substitute for Jurgen Klopp, moving ahead of Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri in the pecking order to appear in nine of the last 11 games for the Reds.

Origi’s attitude in training has apparently convinced Klopp that he’s worthy of a new contract at the club, with his current deal set to expire in 2020.
