Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Interested in Lewandowski
Sure, why not?
We’re already in April and the trees are blooming, the birds are singing, and The Mirror believes that Klopp and Liverpool are very interested in Bayern Munich striker, Robert Lewandowski. Liverpool wouldn’t be the only Premier League club interested, either. The Reds would be up against Chelsea to sign the Poland international, which could end up working in Liverpool’s favour depending on whether or not Chelsea wins their appeal against FIFA’s transfer ban.
Lewandowski may be turning 31 this year, but he’s also only the fifth player to ever score 200 Bundesliga goals when he scored twice against his and Klopp’s former club, Borussia Dortmund.
“He was a coach who also had a very big influence on my career and I can only be thankful to him,” Lewandowski told UEFA’s official website when asked about Klopp. “What we did together at Dortmund and the progress we made has brought us to where we are,”
”I’m delighted I was able to get to know such a coach and such a person as Jürgen because he’s amazing — both as a coach and a person. I learned so much from him and that means a lot.”
While reuniting with Lewandowski would obviously be great for The Narrative (especially if it comes on the heels of the League trophy and maybe the Champions League trophy, as well), it seems much more likely that Liverpool would focus on younger players should they go after another goalscorer in the summer.
So, probably good to file this one against “really, really unlikely.”
