Robertson: We had the golf on during City win

Andy Robertson claims the Reds were more interested in what Tiger Woods was doing on Sunday than the outcome of the Manchester City match.

The champions took on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park just before Liverpool faced Chelsea at Anfield, with Reds supporters hoping Palace could do them a favour.

City came away with all three points to briefly top the league again before Jurgen Klopp’s side put Chelsea to the sword.

And Robertson revealed after the game that the Liverpool players had watched Woods’ win at the Masters in the dressing room rather than the City match.

“I didn’t even know they had scored a third, I was watching the golf to be honest!” Robertson said, according to the Echo.

“I wanted Tiger to win it. We had the golf on. I was watching it with James Milner in the treatment room.

“I’m sure some of the lads were aware of the City score but it wasn’t something we spoke about. We didn’t know the City result beforehand but because we hadn’t heard anything we just guessed they had won.”

On the title run, he added: “I think we’re all enjoying it.”

“You saw that with our performance. The fans enjoyed it, we enjoyed it. It’s easier when you are in front in a game.

“This is the first time a lot of us have found ourselves in a position like this and you have to enjoy experiences like this. Hopefully we’ll be celebrating come the end. But we know there’s a lot of hard work still to be done.

“It’s a massive three points for us but we’ve still got four games to go. We need to put this one behind us now and push on.

“Every game is so big at this stage of the season. Every team is fighting for something and there’s a lot more pressure on you.

“It was big against Chelsea because they have so much quality but Cardiff will be equally as difficult next weekend. It will be a different type of game but the three points are just as vital.”

Robertson also spoke about the upcoming game against Porto, with Liverpool set to travel to Portugal with a 2-0 lead in hand.

“Winning 2-0 at home was a good result for us but now we’ve got a tough away game,” Robertson said.

“We know the tie is far from dead. Porto are a different team at home.

“We need to be at 100%. We need to recover and ensure we’re ready to go on Wednesday night to hopefully secure that semi-final spot.

“We’ve been to Porto before so we know what to expect. I’m sure it will be a very different game compared to what we did last time.

“We were just too good for them at their place last year but they’re a different team now. We know how hard it will be but we’ll be prepared for it. It’s all about getting the job done.

“We want to go as far as possible in the Champions League and we’re taking it right to the wire in the Premier League, whether we win it or not remains to be seen.

“We’ll go flat out for both but we know how hard it’s going to be.”
