John Barnes believes Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will have a “huge impact” for Liverpool next season.

The midfielder was out for a full year with a knee injury but finally made his return against Huddersfield last week.

And Barnes thinks the England international will play a key role for the Reds in the next campaign.

“Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will have a huge impact next season,” Barnes said.

“I don’t think he’ll have a big impact this season, as it’s hard to hit the ground running with not many games left of the season.

“Joe Gomez will also be important for Liverpool next season, and it will be like having two new players to the squad.

“They’re both quality international players. It’s unrealistic to expect them to be back to their best straight away.”
