Loris Karius chooses not to attend Champions League final

Loris Karius has chosen not to attend the Champions League final on Saturday in order to avoid becoming a distraction, according to the Mail.

Karius has completed one of two years on loan at Besiktas after Liverpool opted to allow him to play his football elsewhere following a disastrous performance in last season’s final.

The German made two major errors to allow Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale to score for Real Madrid, effectively ending Liverpool’s hopes of winning the competition that season.

And now, it appears the goalie has chosen to not use the ticket offered to him by Jurgen Klopp for the final, with all of Liverpool’s loan players invited to attend the match.

The 25-year-old will instead go on holiday early, with Liverpool’s coaching staff supportive of his decision.

Liverpool have provided substantial support for Karius following his costly mistakes in Kiev last season, which have since been attributed to the concussion he received from Sergio Ramos, who also injured Mohamed Salah during the match.

Sporting director Michael Edwards has visited Karius in Turkey, while goalkeeping coach John AChterberg keeps in regular contact with him. Klopp also remains on good terms with the player.
